    Celebrating Songkran

Derived from ancient Sanskrit, Songkran, which means “transition” is the biggest annual festival in Thailand, and a celebration of the Thai New year. The ancient Brahmins of Indian considered the passing of the moon, sun and planets from the zodiac sign of Aries into Taurus to signal a new astrological year, and the period was known as Maha Songkran or the Great Songkran.

History says that the festival was introduced from India where the festival of Holi, which announces the arrival of spring, is still celebrated with the throwing of coloured powder and water. Adapted and observed by Thailand and its neighbours during the hot season, the water splashing not only helps to cool everyone down but also represents purification, while invoking the life-giving monsoon rains.

Today this much anticipated holiday in the Kingdom from 13-15 April, embraces the rites of spring, family gatherings honouring the elderly, cleaning the house, and burning the old to start anew. It is also the stage for the world’s biggest water fight.

    A Survival Guide to Songkran

    Prepare to get wet
If you are going to travel around the city, you will definitely get soaked. It is a water festival after all.

    Wear appropriate clothes and footwear
This festival involves a lot of water, so choose clothes that are light and dry fast. Wear a swimsuit or beach shorts underneath. Protect your feet with an old pair of sneakers or sandals. Avoid flipflops if possible. Goggles or sunglasses are also a must.

    Apply sunscreen liberally
April is the hottest time of the year in Thailand. Cover up as much as possible and slather any exposed parts with an SPF30+ waterproof sunscreen. Protect your head with a hat or cap.

    Zip your wallet and phone
The hotel will provide you with a ziplock or small waterproof bag to ensure your valuables stay dry during the water fights. Pro-tip: Only carry what is really necessary.

Respect the people and the traditions
Since most of the actions take place on the streets, respect the shops and businesses that stay open during this long holiday. Don’t throw water indoors or on people on their way to work. Also don’t splash water on monks, elderly people or babies. In fact learn how to say “Sawasdee Pee Mai”, which means “Happy New Year” in Thai.

    Don’t Drink and Drive
Drink and drive are a terrible combination at any time of the year. But during Songkran, it can be even more dangerous. Use public transportation and taxis to travel from one spot to another.

    Hydrate Constantly
Although Songkran is one big water festival, all that running around in the heat dehydrates you very quickly. Take a water bottle along with you, or duck into one of the many convenience stores.

5 Hidden Gems in Krabi https://www.poonsirivarichaonang.com/5-hidden-gems-in-krabi/ Mon, 22 Feb 2021 04:30:24 +0000 http://poonsirivarichaonang.com/?p=9641 The post 5 Hidden Gems in Krabi appeared first on Poonsiri Varich Pool Villa อ่าวนาง กระบี่.

    How often you visit Krabi?

Everyone knows about Railay beach and the 4 Islands tour, but what about the mainland? Here are our 5 favorite things to do in Krabi that you might not have heard about!

    1. Sra Morakot/Emerald Pool and blue pool

These are in the same park and about 2 hours drive from Ao Nang. Worth the drive? Definitely.

This place becomes a zoo once the tour buses arrive so a ‘get up before the sun rises’ kind of place if you’re after some peace and quiet.

so what you gonna paid is for parking and “farang” (foreigner) entry rate to the national park, and wandered into the forest. I would guess it was probably a kilometer or so before we reached the first bright blue lake – Emerald Pool.

Also worth noting, much like the famous Thai fish foot spas, the fish in this pool like to nibble toes 😉

    2. NAM TOK RAWN–KRABI HOT SPRINGS

Another one to wake up early for, unless you like sitting in people soup. Get there before the springs are officially open and you’ll even skip having to pay an entry fee.

These hot springs are awesome, especially if you go on a cooler wetter day; not sure I’d want to go on a hot day (another reason to go early in the morning). Nonetheless, these springs are relaxing and idyllic.

3.Wat Tham Seua/ Tiger Cave Temple

Once you get to the temple you’re going to have to head through the grounds at the bottom. If you’re a lady I’m sorry to tell you that you’re going to have to cover your legs. There’s a pretty serious security guard at the bottom that’s going to make you one way or another.

Once you’re at the foot of the staircase, the adventure is starting. till the top of the mountain, there are 1,237 steps waiting for you The views of Krabi from the top are unparalleled and it’s something we don’t regret getting sweaty for, and believe me, you will be sweaty.

    4.Loh Sama Bay

Loh Sama (Sama Bay in Thai) is one of the most famous sites of Koh Phi Phi Leh which, we have to admit, hosts a fair deal of outstanding attractions. Located on the eastern side of the southern tip of the island, it features a small islet in the center of the bay and a tiny beach at the backside of a small canyon on its northern part. Loh Sama is reputed for its snorkeling and diving opportunities. The famous Maya Bay is separated from it by a limestone cliff, which is pierced by a small hole allowing passage at low tide. A wooden staircase and terrace have been built on the Maya Bayside, offering visitors a great vista over Loh Sama and the islet.

Snorkellers can enjoy the shallow crystal-clear waters of the channel formed between Koh Phi Phi Leh and the islet while scuba divers can appreciate wall diving down to 20 meters around the islet itself. Loh Sama is also famous for being a great night-diving spot, with a narrow canyon covered with soft coral and gorgonian sea fans offering spectacular scenery at night thanks to the light reflection in the eyes of hundreds of crustaceans crawling around.

    5.Khao Ngorn Gai (Dragon Crest)

18 Kilos meters from Aonang beach. Krabi has plenty of different resources, so it’s not gonna have just sea but also a mountain. This Dragon Crest has 3.8 kilos meter distance for the top view and it’s gonna take 3-4 hours for walking depends on your endurance this place is open every day from 06:00 until 16:00, and it’s free entrance.

5 Thai Dishes you should eat for your first time in Thailand https://www.poonsirivarichaonang.com/5-thaidish/ Sun, 07 Feb 2021 09:34:47 +0000 http://poonsirivarichaonang.com/cocktail-party-for-all-guests-this-saturday-2/ The post 5 Thai Dishes you should eat for your first time in Thailand appeared first on Poonsiri Varich Pool Villa อ่าวนาง กระบี่.

Is this the first time you visit Thailand?
are you nervous about Thai food?
don’t worry today we have a 5 buckets list of Thai dishes that you should have eaten.

    1. Tom Yam Kung / Spicy Shrimp Soup

Even thai people often eat Tom yam Kung with rice and some people eat with Minced Pork Omelette ( thai recipe) as well it’s a perfect combo Tom Yam Kung has two versions (light, intense) in my opinion I would suggest you try the intense soup so you will get the real experiences and know-how spicy and sour of it. even I’m typing this post I’m being fond of good food.

    2. Phad Thai / Thai Fried Noodles with pawn

A Second Famous dish that you shouldn’t miss, The highlight of this dish is all about noodles, sweet and sour taste with fresh prawns, it will serve side dishes that has lime, soja, banana blossom. if you have time I would suggest you try Pad Thai Thip Sa Mai it’s a very famous restaurant and worth waiting.

3.Kao Mun Gai / Hainanese Chicken Rice

this dish maybe is the most eaten dish in the country and reflects the Chinese influence. it’s boiled chicken on rice, just that easy! sounds really dull right? but believe us you should try it then you will see why it’s the most eaten dish for the country.

4.Bai Liang Phad Kai / Stir-fried Malindjo leaves with egg

If you about to visit Southern Thailand This dish is recommended
Bai Liang Phad Kai is a common dish for the southern but rarely can’t find in the other religion.
Southern food is a combination of authentic Thai cuisine and Indian cuisine. The uniqueness is a strong flavor – so spicy, so salty, and so sour. Most dishes contain a lot of spices so be careful.

    Khao Soi

5.Khao Soi (Coconut Curry Noodle Soup)

A classic Northern Thai noodle commonly found especially in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. The word “Khao” in Thai basically means “rice” but surprisingly, non of the ingredients made from rice.
Khao Soi is a traditional food that was influenced by Burmese Muslim cuisine, so it is usually made with beef and chicken (can make with pork or other meats as well but not popular) combines with boiled and crispy noodles served with slightly pickled lettuce. The curry is similar to green curry as they both made from coconut but yellow curry in Khao Soi is more watery and eaten as a soup.
